Cheaters never prosper
Ben 10 lover Junior is going to find out why betraying Mam Rebs is the worst decision he could’ve made.
When it comes to love, Mam Rebs (Linda Sebezo) isn’t just a provider thanks to her illegal brothel The Black Door. She’s also in need of a little attention herself. That’s why she’s dating Junior (Sandile Mfusi), who’s her Ben 10 lover – he’s much younger and he’s easy on the eyes. Plus, being older, wiser, richer and more powerful means than Mam Rebs can control Junior. What she doesn’t know is that the youngster is flirting with danger by hooking up with one of her sexworkers!
A FOOL & HIS MONEY
Mam Rebs has given Junior everything. “He’s taken care of financially. What he wants, he gets. But he becomes greedy and his eyes start to wander,” explains Linda. “It (cheating) is actually typical of a man. It’s what happens to a lot of women. They do everything for the man they love and they get betrayed.” But what Mam Rebs could never expect is that it’s one of her employees doing the deed with Junior. “Both of them should know better. Junior is foolish for thinking that he could get away with this,
and Candy (Melinda Lupindo) knows how Mam Rebs is – she should’ve said no to Junior from the start. Her boss is terrifying,” adds the actress.
Mam Rebs and Junior’s sex life starts to wane and while Mam Rebs is quite demanding, she doesn’t think twice when Junior says he’s got a headache and other feeble excuses. “She’s got more experience and she controls this relationship,” says Linda, adding that “sometimes these (physical) things happen. She’s a woman and she knows that the body doesn’t always do what the brain wants.” But there’s going to come a point where Mam Rebs gets fed up with her non-performing Ben 10. And you know what they say about a woman scorned…
NEW JOB, NEW LOVE
Mam Rebs recently removed her trusty
Romeo (Mzamo Gcabashe) as manager from The Black Door after a little bit of drama at the premises, and she’s given Junior the job. It gives him a sense of purpose but it’s also where he meets Candy. “Instead of enjoying work for the job satisfaction, he starts spending less time with his sugarmama and more time ‘at work’,” explains Linda.
The actress says that Junior is lucky because while his indiscretions are obvious to everyone at the Door, Mam Rebs is oblivious because “she’s madly in love with Junior. She likes him because she can control him with her power, money and influence, but she really loves him too.” So Junior cheating on her is the last thing that Mam Rebs considers.
HE SHOULD’VE KNOWN…
As much as he loves his character, Sandile says that Junior has been a typical male. “It’s not so much that he’s got someone young and pretty who he takes a liking to. Candy is all of that, but Junior likes the thrill. He’s addicted to that risk. He’s also now got something to keep him busy when Mam Rebs is too occupied to give him attention.”
Junior is also arrogant enough to
think that he’s smarter than everyone. “He’s game is slick, it’s on point – that’s how he feels. Junior thinks that he can cheat on Mam Rebs and get away with it, and even if he does get caught, Mam Rebs’s love for him will make her overlook his cheating.”
Sandile doesn’t agree with what Junior is doing, adding that “I think he is a young man wanting to have fun. He’s making a mistake – it’s not a moral thing to do (to cheat). And it’s going to hurt people – Mam Rebs especially.” PLAYING WITH FIRE Junior becomes complacent with his cheating and he becomes careless and arrogant. The more he slips up though, the more people notice… people like Romeo who’re loyal to Mam Rebs and will do anything to see Junior crash and burn “because he’s not really a nice guy,” says Sandile. Even when he almost gets caught and when he’s questioned about women’s underwear in his office, someone covers for Junior. But that isn’t enough to make him shy away from cheating. If anything, it fuels his addiction to the thrill.
During his shift at The Black Door, Junior calls his sidepiece and they hookup in a room where he knows there are no security cameras. But as it turns out, Junior wasn’t told about a recent upgrade to the system. “He thinks that he’s gotten away with things, only to find out that there’s been a secret camera installed. And that panics him,” says Sandile, whose character must now not make a scene and secretly get into the security room and erase the tapes before Mam Rebs – or anyone else for that matter – can see them. “He stresses because he knows what will happen,” says Sandile. “And it won’t be good because Mam Rebs is a dangerous and powerful woman. Junior is making a mistake that will cost him dearly.” WHERE THERE’S SMOKE It won’t take long though for Mam Rebs to wake up and smell the billowing fire in her romance. And Linda says that her character is going to go ballistic. “Wow! That’s what I can say. Mam Rebs is not the kind of person you mess around with. She doesn’t suffer any fools, and she also doesn’t want to hear lies when she asks questions. So she’ll know when she confronts Junior and the words coming out of his mouth are nothing but lies, lies and more lies.”
When Mam Rebs starts asking Junior questions and prodding him for answers and phrases things in a certain way, he realises that he’s been caught. “But she doesn’t accuse him outright of cheating so Junior is on the backfoot a bit,” adds the actor, admitting that Junior’s first thought is to stop his cheating. But that doesn’t happen because he’s got an ego. Thing is, Mam Rebs is like a pitbull and a genius in one body. “She’s fierce and she fights tooth and nail. If she’s got you in her sights, you’re in trouble,” says Linda. But Mam Rebs isn’t going to punish Junior until he admits his sins. “She tortures him mentally. She’s got control of him and she will squeeze him for info until he pops…”
