Ace up the sleeve

Zenzele has a brand-new scheme in mind that he’s hoping will solve his family’s troubles.

-

After getting rid of their criminal business associate Mukuna (Joe Kazadi), the Kubeka family thought their troubles were over. Little did they know that an old enemy was cunningly making their way back to stir up enough drama to make Mukuna look like child’s play. Eldest son Jojo (Melusi Mbele) is surprised to learn that his family will have their backs against the wall yet again. “An old rival wants to end them. The Kubeka family are in big trouble,” says Melusi, adding that “there’s a huge fall out and the family start throwing each other under the bus”. For once though, black-sheep Zenzele (Robert Mpisi) may be their saving grace…

MASTER OF ZEN

Robert says that he’s proud of his character, who loves misbehaving. “He does drugs, he sleeps around, he’s naughty. But for once, Zen will have a plan to deal with the family drama.” Patriarch Vukile (Fana Mokoena) realises that his family can’t afford to fail this time and he’s made mistakes in the past that are now coming back to haunt him. “This person, they did business with the family long ago and there’s a score to be settled,” adds Robert. Fana says that “from the second Vukile realises what’s going on, he knows that they’re fighting for their lives. They’re in a very dangerous position. The only way out will be to take drastic measures that will live with them forever and it’s going to push them to uncomfortable new spaces.”

BOY WONDER

Now Vukile’s foremost concern is to keep his family safe. So much that he is willing to do anything to make that happen. “But this time what is being asked of him is something he has never thought he would have to do,” Fana warns. Cue Zen stepping up with an idea that surprises even himself. “Zen has always been a delinquent and this time he’s going to be a guardian angel. The ace up his sleeve will shock everyone,” says Robert, adding that “this will take things in a completely different direction, one even Zen didn’t expect. His family is conflicted. Different family members aren’t sure what to make of this plan, but he’s hopeful that it will work. It’s the last throw of the dice so it must work; they don’t have another way out of this situation.”

The notoriously private Kubekas are hiding a lot more than anyone knows, and it seems that there’s a new problem waiting around every corner. Sooner or later, their luck will run out.
