Drama is on another level in biographic limited series We Own This City. Niceguy actor Jon Bernthal (Shane Walsh in horror series The Walking Dead) is at his corrupt and hate-able best as Baltimore cop Wayne Jenkins who was convicted on corruption charges while leading the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force in 2018. “I met with Wayne’s colleagues, his family and Wayne himself,” says Jon, who is a casting favourite for despicable characters. “When he enters a room, everybody takes notice. He has charisma and bravado. Some people would call it arrogance,” adds the 45-year-old.
Jon says that every conversation he 1 had with Wayne was strange and made the ex-cop seem “off”. “First he’d claim his innocence 100%, then he’d talk about being guilty as charged, then he tried to get me to do something for him on the outside,” explains Jon.
The actor says that he likes to stay 2 private and is humble: “I’m not as fancy as my brother Nicholas, who’s an orthopaedic surgeon and professor. My other brother Thomas is a business consultant who’s engaged to a billionaire executive from Facebook. I’m normal.” He almost never became an actor – he played professional baseball in Russia, but his coach told him to go to the Moscow Art Theatre and study.
Jon married trauma nurse Erin 3 Angle in 2010 and they have three kids: Sons Henry (10) and Billy (9), and daughter Adeline (7).
He’s a dog lover and owns three 4 pitbull terriers: BamBam, Boss and Venice. “They’re like my other children and they come to set with me. They’re big softies and behave better than my actual children,” jokes the actor.
