Droomverlore
Season 1 e.tv (*194) 17:30 Telenovela
Can Yaman loves his role on Turkishlanguage, English-subtitled, Afrikaansdubbed series Droomverlore (originally titled Erkenci Kus when it aired in 2018) for a simple reason: “My character is called Can, my name is Can, so when someone shouts ‘Can’, I always turn as I know they’re talking to me,” says the 32-year-old actor, whose quiet, reserved character runs the family business, much to the employees’ joy as they respect him. “Can is a guy with dreams but he’s also talented enough to run the family ad company. He is a smart businessman but because he enjoys life in the woods at his cabin, he isn’t the ‘perfect’ fit.”
He’s Turkish born and bred, but 1 Can grew up in Italy thanks to his dad’s work. “It was lovely there, I went to university in Italy and studied more than just acting,” says Can.
The actor has a degree in law and 2 owns the Turkish law firm Iplıkcı Ozturk Yaman Can Besiktas with two of his varsity friends. He’s barred from practicing though – it’s against the law in Turkey to have two professions.
Can is fluent in four languages 3 – Turkish, English, Italian and German. “I learnt German for the fun of it. I was bored during university, so I also took linguistics as a subject. I’d like to work in Germany too,” he says. He plays basketball to help stay 4 in shape and goes to gym once a month to see his physiotherapist.
The actor also took cooking classes 5 at varsity and says that his friends always ask for one thing when they get home from a night out clubbing. “They want my stuffed grape leaves. There’s nothing special but my friends always want them, so the ingredients, orange juice and chocolate are always in my fridge,” says Can. NB! See p33.
