Fickle hearts may fall

Mazwi’s obsession with his ex Sphe has Fikile feeling freezer burn when his love turns cold.

-

What goes around, comes around, and that’s never more true than in romance. When Mazwi (Musa Ngema) cheated on Sphe (Pearl Monama) with Fikile (Refilwe Madumo) and ended up divorcing Sphe to be in a relationship with Fikile in September 2020,

Fikile never imagined herself in Sphe’s shoes. But look at her now! Click clack, walking more than a mile in Sphe’s heels feeling like “the other woman” this time round.

OBSESSED WITH THE EX

Mazwi’s romantic and business partner, has been feeling insecure. Mazwi has been far too focused on Sphe, and the obsession is starting to show.

“Mazwi and Sphe are spending a lot of time together again. They’re calling each other more often and when Fikile asks what it’s all about, Mazwi says they’re talking about their daughter. Fikile is doubtful. She’s part of

the child’s life too, so now she’s wondering why they need to be alone when they discuss her, and now all of a sudden of all things,” Refilwe reveals.

Fikile is holding her tongue for now, but she’s no fool. “Fikile chooses to keep quiet about the doubts plaguing her as she wants to be sure of what’s going on before doing anything,” Refilwe says.

Mazwi has been a hater ever since February 2022 when Winston (Lehasa Moloi) started romancing Sphe, who’s not only Mazwi’s exwife but also the mother of their young daughter. At first, everyone thought that Mazwi was just being a jealous ex who doesn’t want his ex-wife to move on and be happy – but as we’ve seen, Mazwi’s gut feeling about Winston having sinister intentions with Sphe was spot on.

And when Winston turned out to be a serial killer and he kidnapped Sphe in March this year, Mazwi was worried sick. Sphe hasn’t left his thoughts since she made it out of Winston’s trap alive. It’s no wonder that Fikile,

EMPTY HEART, EMPTY BED

For a while it seems every-thing between the couple is back to normal, but soon Fikile’s hopes are dashed again. And once Fikile’s eyes are truly opened, she starts noticing a shift in her man’s behaviour and his treatment of her. There’s a chill in the air and it’s not because the power’s gone out. Mazwi’s attention has been like the sun, and now there’s an eclipse. “She’s been feeling a bit neglected by Mazwi. He has been turning down her romantic gestures and he just hasn’t been as engaged with her. They usually love taking showers together. So when Fikile asks him to join her in the shower, she’s a bit surprised that he says no. When she gets out of the shower to grab a towel, she

overhears Mazwi talking to Sphe. Mazwi and Sphe were married for years, and it’s clear that they still care about each other a lot,” Refilwe explains.

LOVE IS BLIND

On the other side of the mattress, Mazwi has no idea what he’s doing to his lover, because he barely “sees” her these days. Musa claims that Mazwi doesn’t even have a hint about the worry and insecurity that she’s feeling. “Mazwi is a very busy man, he doesn’t notice the doubts Fikile is having about their relationship. He also might be a little too focused on his ex-wife right now, but to him, Fikile should understand – he needs to make sure Sphe is alright, he’s got a permanent responsibility to her because she is the mother of his daughter,” Musa insists.

Does Musa think, given the opportunity, Mazwi would get back together with Sphe? “Well, I mean, you never know. Sphe will always have a special place in his heart,” is all that the actor is willing to say. And as if Mazwi wasn’t already too focused on Sphe, in late July a shocking secret leaves Mazwi rattled to his core. “Let’s just say, he finds out what happened between Philani

(Herald Khumalo), Winston and Sphe – and yeah, no…”

Musa hints.

MIND YOUR BUSINESS

Fikile has a lot to lose if this relationship goes under. There are a few too many eggs in her Mazwi basket. She and handsome Mazwi have been serving ultimate couple goals since they made their relationship official. This matched set of black diamonds even started a company together Moroka Media, which has become their former family company #Ezweni’s biggest competition. Refilwe reflects on how far her character and her love interest have come: “Mazwi has always been a very ambitious man, it’s one of the things Fikile loves about him. He sets his mind on something and dedicates all his energy to it until it’s a success. That’s how Moroka Media was born. Fikile and Mazwi have been running that ship together, but now he’s been behaving very strangely.”

“Mazwi and Fikile are also business partners at Moroka Media. But these days it looks like he’s not very forthcoming with information with regards to business. This is obviously very frustrating and hurtful because this is not how a partnership works. Mazwi seems to just be letting Fikile down in every sphere of their lives,” Refilwe adds.

While both Musa and Refilwe insist that Mazwi and Fikile “love each other very much”, love isn’t just feeling, it’s action. And Mazwi’s actions are whispering betrayal, while Fikile’s are showing fear. It won’t be long before these feelings bubble over and when that happens, this couple might have an unseen and unwanted audience.
