The truth hurts
Life will never be the same again! The House Of Zwide finale reveals that Funani is Ona’s biological father.
At the start of telenovela House Of Zwide in July last year, we found out that Isaac (Jeffery Seleke) abducted Ona (Nefisa Mkhabela) from the Zwide family – 20 years back – and raised her. In a twist of fate, she was reunited with her family when fashion empire House Of Zwide hired her as an intern, and her biological father Funani (Vusi Kunene) became her boss. Well, when season 1 comes to end on Friday 8 July, all those truths come to light, and it’ll turn the Molapos’ and Zwides’ lives upside down. “As expected, there will be drama when the truth about Ona’s paternity is uncovered,” says Nefisa, before adding, “It’s also going to be an emotional journey for viewers. They’ve come to love these characters and emotions will run high.”
EXPOSED!
After Isaac recently visited the Zwide home, Funani’s son Nkosi (Wanda Zuma) recognised Isaac’s voice, but he couldn’t put his finger on where he’d heard it before. Nkosi started putting the puzzle together in early July… until that voice triggered a buried memory. Nkosi finally recalls the evening 20 years ago when his mother Busi was killed (offscreen). Later that night, Isaac snuck into the Zwide home and set it alight to hide the murder before leaving with Ona, who was originally named Nobuhle.
To put his suspicions to rest, Nkosi and Funani stole a sample of Ona’s DNA and they conducted a gene test. And because the Zwides live for drama, Nkosi chooses to walk into the fashion show with those results and hand them over to Funani, who collapses in shock. Once he wakes, Funani goes on a mission to get the truth.

What Funani isn’t aware of yet is that his wife Faith (Winnie Ntshaba) is responsible for all this chaos and tragedy. She was
Funani’s mistress at the time and in a jealous rage, she murdered Busi and called her then-boyfriend Isaac to get rid of the evidence.
The more Funani digs, the closer he’ll get to that truth, which will threaten to destroy his marriage. What’s also concerning is that now that Funani knows that Ona is his long-lost Nobuhle, he’ll go to extreme lengths to bring her back home and get Isaac arrested for his crime. “Ona is going to go through pain and anger. She is going to ask herself questions such as ‘who am I?’ She’ll question a lot about her identity and where she belongs,” says Nefisa. Now Ona has a lot of introspection ahead of her for season 2!

Tensions are raised at fashion empire House Of Zwide as the interns’ competition nears its end, Mampho experiences difficulties as a new mom, and Naledi leaves town without warning. Faith gives Mampho advice on caring for baby Busi, Ona struggles to come to terms with Naledi’s departure, and the interns drift further apart as they attempt to outshine each other. Nkosi has a nightmare about the dreaded night when his family home was set alight, and Mampho beats herself up for not being a perfect mother.
Nkosi confides in Dorothy about his nightmares, Faith and Funani bond while babysitting Busi, and Ona is thrilled to return to House Of Zwide, much to the other interns’ unease and unhappiness. Ona rushes to complete her design in time for Fashion Week, and Nkosi gets to the bottom of his nightmares. Mampho faces her fears, and the interns put the pride aside and they lend Ona a helping hand. Nkosi’s search comes to an end, and Funani and Laz prepare for an important evening in their careers. Nkosi conducts a DNA test behind Faith’s back to get the truth about baby Busi’s paternity, the interns are anxious on the first day of Jozi Fashion Week, and Soka gets an outfit for an event. Funani showcases his designs at Fashion Week, Ona receives life-changing news, and Nkosi fears that his actions have destroyed his family. Funani goes on a mission to discover the truth, Isaac’s past haunts him, and Faith hides behind lies, but her time is running out.
