Raw. Vegan. Not Gross

-

Season 1 The Home Channel (*176) 18:00 Lifestyle

Vegan food is incorrectly labelled as “yuck” and “gross”. That’s because some people have been eating incorrectly

– but there’s help at hand from food blogger, cookbook author and internet personality Laura Miller and her new show Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. “I based this series on my 2016 cookbook of the same name. It’s important for everyone to know that there’s nothing wrong with veganism. It’s a mindset and you need to stand by your convictions,” says the 32-year-old Laura, who went vegan in her teens.

She’s also not using her show to tell people what to do. “My best friend eats meat all the time. That’s her decision.

I’m not here to preach to the choir. I’m here to show you alternatives to your favourite dishes,” says the chef, who starts episode 1 tonight with a beet lasagne. “I’m trying to get viewers to try new things. If they like it, cool. If not, that’s okay too.” And she’s visiting some of California’s best farmlands to find raw produce that most chefs dream of. “I’ve travelled around the world and across the United States. There’s something about this California soil that makes veggies and fruit grow so well!”

Laura’s show isn’t limited to main meals only – she’s got a sweet-tooth herself and says that her hazelnut pancakes (in episode 8 on 1 September) are her family’s favourite dessert. “It’s more important to incorporate things into your diet than to push things out and go cold turkey from your eating lifestyle,” she says. “Do it slowly so it fits into your life, and your family life. Find out what things your family is also excited about and want to eat. If you’re trying to become vegan, start by tasting things you’ve always avoided first.”
