Husband versus Wife

Jojo and his pregnancy-faking wife Mbali are headed for a clash that could sink the Kubekas like Titanic.

-

Nothing is ever smooth sailing in the Kubeka house. There’s always drama and the entire family has to come together to mop up whatever the damage of the day is. Usually eldest son Jojo (Melusi Mbele) acts as the moral compass, but he does things by the book, which sometimes results in him being excluded from his family’s criminal activities. And then how is he supposed to steer if he doesn’t know where they’re going? As a result, Jojo has built up defences against the worst lies and deception on offer.

Now when misfortune strikes the Kubeka clan again, if it breaks through the high walls that Jojo has built around his hardened heart, it will hit him so hard that he will struggle to come to terms with what has happened. “Jojo receives some bad news, but his heart is far gone and it’s unclear if the bad news will affect him at all. Also, the bad news is quite close to him. All I can say is that it’s pretty devastating and sad. It is also an event that can either bring two people together… or further apart,” Melusi teases.

MOTHER OF LIES

Jojo’s wife Mbali (Nolwazi Shange) has been hiding a fake pregnancy from him for months, and although she’s successfully kept it a secret, it’s almost time for her to “give birth” and the walls may be closing in. She tricked Jojo into impregnating her little sister Winnie (Fundiswa Ngcobo) and continued pressure from Jojo places Winnie in a compromising position. “Jojo needs to know something and nobody is telling him the truth and he is desperate to no longer be in the dark,” Melusi hints.

Fundiswa is also careful not to spill too much. “Everything that’s done in the dark usually finds a way of coming to light. Mbali has been burdening not only her sister, but her entire family too. More lies have been told to maintain her lie of being pregnant, at some point the truth always comes out… or does it?”

Driven by frustration, Jojo takes a risk that might come back to bite him. Melusi explains: “He places himself in a position where he can alienate people but also this single decision has long ramifications. So much more drama is coming,” he says.

LIE TILL YOU DIE!

Mbali has had many chances to come clean to her husband and in-laws, but she’s determined to see her lie through. From fibbing about her regular medical check-ups, to lying about why she can’t be intimate with her hubby. At the end of this fortnight though, Mbali feels her grip slipping on a fragile situation and lives could be changed. And she completely shocks Winnie by the extreme measures that she has put in place to ensure their continued deception. Are the walls about to come crashing down, or will Mbali pull off the lie of her life?
