A man of morals

A panic-stricken Sibiya saves his lady love from a nightmare.

-

Life for Sibiya (Mthandeni Mbambo) and his wife Phumeza (Tsidi Makitle) seems to be going great. With their financial crisis behind them after Sibiya received a salary raise recently, they can now turn their attention to making a baby. But hiccups are waiting around the corner to turn their blissful new lives into a horror story forcing them to make life-changing decisions.

“Sibiya and Phumeza’s lives, both personally and professionally, are going really well. They have gotten rid of their biggest worry – their cash crisis – and now they want to focus on building their family. But not everything can be smooth sailing, and just like every other couple, they start having small fights and arguments,” says Mthandeni.

GOOD COP

“Their fights are all based on the offer that Sibiya has received from the South African Police Service. For Sibiya, this is an opportunity to go back and become the police officer that he was before he was suspended when it was determined that it was his bullet that killed Sibusiso (Ntando Mncube) who died in August 2021,” says Mthandeni. But his wife doesn’t like the idea of her hubby leaving their shared workplace at Durban Gen. So Phumeza hides Sibiya’s phone, forcing him to miss the important call from the police chief and possibly miss out on the work. “It angers him and it leads to an ugly argument between them,” adds the actor, whose character is desperate to be a hero again.

PHUMEZA’S PREDICAMENT

While Sibiya and Phumeza keep their personal problems aside during working hours, it seems like trouble loves following them wherever they go and Phumeza gets caught in the middle of a hostage situation. “A drug mule enters Durban General, and not knowing what to do since she’s swallowed the drugs, she confides in Phumeza who then helps her get the package surgically removed,” says Mthandeni. After the surgery op, the drug mule holds Phumeza hostage until the nurse brings her the drugs that she was carrying in her body. “Sibiya hears about the commotion and he comes to his wife’s rescue… but he’s furious,” adds the actor, “at himself.”

This incident causes Sibiya to change his mind about leaving the hospital for his old job. “Sibiya reflects on the situation that took place, and he realises that if he wasn’t there, there’s no telling of what could have happened to Phumeza. So with the safety of not only Phumeza but everyone at Durban Gen in mind, he decides to give up on joining the police again and chooses to stay as the head of security, even though he desperately wanted his old job,” says Mthandeni.
