Matter of principals
The race to become Turf High’s newest principal is on and Alfred is doing his devious best to get ahead of his rivals.
After a petition was filed against Principal Thobakgale (Elizabeth Serunye) by parents, students and a handful of her teaching staff for her years of misconduct, bullying and worse, she was suspended from her duties. Now with the principal position officially vacant and the opportunity of moving right to the top of the pecking order waiting to be grabbed, there’s a throng of teachers at Turf High desperately vying for the coveted job. And it’s not surprising that the person leading the race is the equally shady vice-principal Alfred (Putla Sehlapelo).
MAN ON A MISSION
“Alfred is happy that Principal Thobakgale is out. It’s been his single, solitary goal ever since returning to duty at the high school in May this year – he lost his sight when a chemical prank by the grade 8 class backfired and he went on forced leave – to unseat his boss and take her throne as ruler of Turf High,” says Putla. But there’s still a lot of work to do, he adds. “The first half of his goal is complete. He’s gotten rid of Principal Thobakgale. But now he needs to focus on getting rid of his competition: Evelyn (Vele Manenje) and
Meneer Manaka (Skhumbuzo
Mbatha) in order to rise to the top. And they’re putting up a fight.”
WAITING FAME
Alfred’s nerves are getting the better of him, and his mind starts racing when he finds out that Meneer Manaka has been made temporary principal and that Eve has been sent an email from the school district – and he’s seemingly left in the cold. “At first Alfred is worried because he doesn’t get the email from the district approving him to run for the position. It does come, but not before he has stressed a bit,” says Putla.
There’s another little issue that the wannabe principal needs to deal with. His reference needs to come from his superior for the position… aka Principal Thobakgale. “She’s holding the fate of his future in her hands,” says Putla, “and given the fact that they don’t get along, it’s obvious that she’s not going to give him a glowing reference. She doesn’t want to see him take her place and Alfred is instantly furious about it.”
What no one can expect though is that Alfred is going to sabotage his own chances. “The interview starts well but soon his temper flares and he loses his temper,” reveals Putla. While Alfred and the other two candidates will need to wait for the outcome, Alfred’s attitude might’ve ended his dreams already…

IN THIS ISSUE
Things are looking up for Alfred again when he gets good news, but there’s also promising updates for his rival. Clement’s obsession with social media is annoying his boyfriend Oritonda and they’re getting close to breaking point, and the Maputlas open their doors to a family they hadn’t expected to meet. Alfred needs to prepare for his big day but there’s an obstacle that he needs to get over first, and Kat realises that he’s got to convince Candice about a new plan.
Clement’s relationship is almost over before it’s even begun thanks to his bad decisions, and an interview goes from great to implosion in the space of minutes. A hate crime ruins a couple’s exciting trip, and there’s a violent confrontation between two business owners in Turfloop. Alfred’s masterplan is falling apart at the seams, and Pretty and Lehasa reach out to a troubled couple. Mapitsi turns to lawyer Leeto for advice on her new business, and an announcement at the school shocks everyone.
