Miss Scarlet And The Duke

-

Season 2 BBC Brit (*120) 20:00 Drama

“My name is Miss Scarlet, and I am a Private Detective” isn’t something that would’ve been said in Victorian London. Women didn’t have jobs, let alone working as a PI. But that’s what determined Miss Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips, Linda Shelby in drama series Peaky Blinders) is doing: Solving mysterious cases. Season 2 is back and she’s still coming to terms with her dad Henry Scarlet (Kevin Doyle, Joseph Molesley in period drama series Downton Abbey) dying and having to take over his detective agency.

“What’s so brilliant about Eliza is that she gives this appearance of being a very refined Victorian lady and to some extent she is that,” says Kate. “But she’s as scrappy and feisty as any woman today. I totally love her for that. She’s so resilient and strong spirited, and she’s making her way in a world where the odds are stacked against her.”

She’s again going to be butting heads with Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington (Stuart Martin, Silas Sharrow in the historical drama series Jamestown), who mentored her. “Eliza was enraged when she found out that he was taking credit for cases she solved with him – and to make things worse, season 1 ended with Eliza doubting their partnership and who he really is,” says Kate.

“Their relationship is complicated and they wind each other up, so that is a continuing theme throughout the show. They work well together but should they be working as a pair or dating officially? That is the ques-tion but I’m not sure it’ll be answered this season,” hints Kate.
