Lieutenant Joe Kenda from true crime series Homicide Hunter returns for a second season of grisly murder cases that he’s solved – and with his 92% solved track record, it’s going to be an interesting watch. “We have a morbid fascination with murder and crimes,” explains the now-retired cop from Colorado. “We want to know more because it’s not the norm. We don’t wake up and commit murder. It’s the unstable criminals who get to those depths of depravity.”
But for this show, Joe isn’t the main star as he meets other detectives from across the US to find out about their toughest cases and how they got their man. “I’ve always been driven by human nature. When I was nine, my parents took me to the zoo in Pittsburgh. I saw a sign that said, ‘Around this corner is the most dangerous animal on earth.’ I ran around the corner and saw myself in a mirror… And that was an epiphany. Humans are the most dangerous animals on this planet. Animals kill for need; humans kill for pleasure.”
Season 1 dealt with suspected suicides that turned out to be murder, kidnappings and even a serial killer who operated from Miami to New Jersey. For season 2, things take a turn for the stranger, says Joe.
“We have the case of a dad of five who’s found dead on his kitchen floor. Detective
James Colley must use all his resources to find the killer in the background of bizarre fantasies and unorthodox relationships. This was a case that I’d been following and to see how the investigation evolved as new clues were found was interesting, it was fresh and exciting,” adds the host.
