It’s Mam Rebs’s world

Linda Sebezo gives viewers what they want with her outrageous, unapologetic character Mam Rebs.

-

The Black Door has quickly found a tight following with its taboo topics and storylines and it’s over-the-top characters who draw viewers in with their shenanigans at The Black Door brothel. And rubbing her hands with glee is brothel madam Mam Rebs (Linda Sebezo, who fans know as Maki Magwaza in prison drama series Lockdown). Every week, e.tv’s biggest villain takes viewers on a ride of their lives and Linda says that it’s the role of a lifetime. “Rebs is a book that can’t be read. She’s totally different from all the characters that I’ve played.” Linda adds, “She challenges me so much and does things you wouldn’t expect from an older woman. You can’t hate her, you just love to hate her.” Right now though, Mam Rebs has her hands full when her eye is caught by her newest star attraction Sabelo (SK Khoza). But he’s more dangerous than Rebs realises…

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Viewers know that Sabelo is Mam Rebs’s ex-son-in-law; his dad Phil was her husband years ago offscreen, and the young man is planning to avenge his dad’s death by murdering the person who had him killed… Mam Rebs. She doesn’t recognise him though and thinks that he’s just some hot young thing. She hasn’t always been this way, or a villain. “Mam Rebs was married to Phil, a rich man who took their savings and spent it on young women,” says Linda. “When Phil came back, he was broke and sick and expected Mam Rebs to take care of him. He had hurt her and was now a liability,” adds the actress, revealing that Mam Rebs’s story is common in South Africa where men philander outside of their marriages and end up putting their wives’ health in danger.

In some way you could say Mam Rebs is a hero for killing Phil although it started a ripple effect of evil. “She opened The Black Door because she realised that men are ruled by sex.

She can give ministers the women and experiences they want, and in return they give her tenders,” says Linda

MET HER MATCH?

Soon Mam Rebs will introduce Sabelo to her family as her partner. “She is blind and captivated by this man and suspects nothing,” adds the actress. “Mam Rebs loves sex and after she saw how talented Sabelo was on the CCTV camera, she was taken by him.” But nothing goes unnoticed by Mam Rebs for too long and she’ll discover not only that he’s been lying to her about why he’s in town and working for her, but who he really is. And that will scare Mam Rebs…
