Season 9 TLC (*135) 21:00 Reality

Whitney Thore makes no excuses for her weight in reality show My Big Fat Fabulous Life, nor does she let anyone get her down. Instead, she fobs off hate directed at her and embraces her health concerns head on. “I’ve got polycystic ovary syndrome and that’s played a large role in my weight gain over the years,” says the 38-year-old whose other career at the moment is professional plus-size dancer.

Season 9 has seen Whitney go on many new adventures now that the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, including online dates with her French tutor crush (who lives in France but isn’t French – he’s got a US accent that’s conveniently ignored) and Whitney freezing her eggs so that she may one day have a baby. “Being involved with someone from across the ocean is a unique pandemic type of project,” says Whitney. “I think COVID really showed us that we’re all just seeking connection and it forced us to find new and different ways to connect with other people that we probably wouldn’t have before, and that’s not something I anticipated, but it is something I am really glad I pursued,” Whitney explains.

The reality star’s health is always at the back of her mind, with Whitney revealing, “I’ve got to be careful. It’s a problem that I’ve learnt to live with in the past, so I’ve come up with a diet that I’m able to maintain and that’s able to maintain my eating needs. It’s not that I eat badly, it’s that I’m always in the mood to snack.” This season will show Whitney going to various doctor appointments to see what can be done to help her be healthier. “I don’t want to die. I want to live,” she says.
