Will Jack and Calvin’s relationship survive the storm that’s creating havoc in their lives?
The once blissfully happy couple and soon-to-be first-time parents Jack (Yola Plaatjie) and Calvin (Bhekisizwe Mahlawe) experienced every parent’s worse nightmare after Jack’s miscarriage. However, things only seem to be getting worse for the lovebirds, especially when Calvin’s never-ending baby talk pushes Jack, who fell into a deep depression after her miscarriage, to take a drastic step regarding their relationship.
“Jack can’t seem to get past her miscarriage. This incident has made her feel like she’s not worthy and woman enough for Calvin since she can’t give him the child he so badly wants. And when Calvin keeps talking about trying for another baby, Jack snaps and decides to call off their engagement, leaving Calvin in a state of utter shock,” says Yola.
HEART TO HEART
In the midst of her mourning, Jack finds it difficult to separate her professional life from her personal life, especially when she meets a patient who came to Durban General for an operation. “Jack finds out that the patient wants to get a hysterectomy done because of a history of cancer in her family. The patient’s decision makes Jack lose her cool because she sees a perfectly healthy woman who can have a child anytime she wants throw away that opportunity, whereas Jack, who craves to have a child, can’t,” explains the actress. “Jack eventually realises that she behaved unprofessionally and decides to open up to the patient about her story in hopes of changing the woman’s mind about undergoing her procedure.”
