Alaskan Bush People

-

Season 7 Discovery (*121) 20:00 Reality

The Brown family return with a new season of their fly-on-the-wall doccie series Alaskan Bush People, chronicling their lives in the Alaskan wilderness. And it’s a harsh life – when late patriarch Billy suffered epileptic seizures, the nearest doctor is over 80km away in the coastal town of Hoonah. “We have been through a lot of tough times out here with my dad,” explains eldest son Bam Bam. “It’s not been easy because we didn’t know for the longest time what was causing his seizures, which proved fatal in mid 2021.”

1 One of the reasons suggested for the family moving to Alaska and into the inaccessible wilds is that Billy and his wife Ami have been trying to hide their pasts as criminals. Billy was convicted of horse theft in the ’80s, while Ami was convicted for defrauding welfare charities.

2 While Bam and Billy claim that they spent a month in prison in 2015 as a plea deal for defrauding Alaska of state dividends from the country’s oil business, they actually spent a month of house arrest in a comfy hotel for the crime.

3 The Browns officially moved out of Alaska following Billy’s death and now all live in Washington. Their Washington house in the 4 North Cascade Mountains no longer exists after being burnt down in the Washington Wildfires of 2021.

4 Youngest daughter Rain and son Matt have both suffered with depression and OCD on the show. Matt’s was so bad in 2017 that he became an alcoholic almost overnight and was forced to go to rehab by his father, who hadn’t touched alcoholic in 40 years.
