Mary is devastated and Lillian, worried that Mary isn’t coping with Jumima’s death, tells Gabriel to support his mother. Gabriel sets about trying to expose Mary’s blackmailer, which leads him to the chatty Mam’Prudence. Abednego realises that he’s not ready to step into a relationship with Gabriel yet, and Gabriel grows closer to Pastor Abiola’s church helper Sarah, unaware of how he’s playing into her plans for revenge.

Siviwe and Makwande have a spat over Zoleka, and Esther tries to mend fences with Zoleka over her affair with Makwande, but Zoleka isn’t quite ready to forgive and forget. Millicent warns her mother Lillian that Mma Ramotswe, who claims to be in Vosloorus searching for Yanga (who’s now dead), is up to something shady, and Mma Ramotswe searches high and low for Yanga’s money. Mary tries to gather her family around her for support and she tells Gabriel that she wants to leave crime, but Esther seems ready to let Mary rot. Simon lures Mma Ramotswe into his orbit, and he persuades Mary that she can get Esther on her side by introducing Esther to her biological father, even if they have to fake it until they make it!
