Struck by Cupid

Jacobeth Thobakgale is hit with the arrow of love, but only time will tell whether it’s true or not.

-

Ex-principal Jacobeth Thobakgale (Elizabeth Serunye) has been adjusting to life as just a teacher after she was removed from the position of principal in August for bullying a colleague. But while she’s devastated about her professional life, she fails to realise just how much her personal life is suffering – that’s until she meets a man who awakens feelings in her that Jacobeth had thought long since died. “Jacobeth was absolutely devastated when she was demoted. Losing her title was so unexpected and because she has been in this position for many years, she realised that she needed to reset her life and get to learn about herself again. But, much to her surprise, she finds out that she’s still able to develop romantic feelings and be attracted to someone,” says Elizabeth.

FIGHTING HER FEELINGS

Jacobeth can’t believe what’s happening, so she tries to fight her emotions and curb the butterflies in her tummy when she thinks about her daughter Dr Lizzy’s (Amanda Manku) patient, Kganyago (Sello Maake kaNcube, Kgosi on The Queen, see p22). “For her the struggle is more internal than anything else because her emotions make her feel insecure and she questions herself. After she lost her husband (offscreen) years ago, her focus became Lizzy and her career. In the midst of trying to climb up the professional ladder and taking care of her daughter, Jacobeth never met anyone she even considered getting into a relationship with. Now that she’s met Kganyago and has this burst of feelings for him, she is sceptical of whether these feelings are genuine or if they are just for a fleeting moment. And she also can’t help but question whether or not she’s worthy to be loved and accepted just the way she is,” says the actress.

FLYING HIGH

Just when it seems like Jacobeth will turn away, she changes her mind. “She decides to give Kganyago a chance and agrees to a date because she realises that it can go one of two ways, either good or bad, and at the end of the day it’s all about knowing that she took that leap. However, as the day gets closer, Jacobeth feels all of her insecurities starting to creep back in, but fortunately for her she squashes them and goes on a beautiful date,” says Elizabeth. Now to see if it will last or if Kganyago indeed has ulterior motives …
