NO SIGNAL?
Hey there, tvplus!
I love the magazine and all the streaming content – I didn’t know that there were so many services! But what i want to know is when are we supposed to be doing the digital migration in SA and what all do i need? Do i need a new DStv decoder or a new TV? – Shawn per email
As with Darren’s question above, we just don’t know. Unfortunately the government department keeps moving the goal posts and this is something that’s nearly a decade overdue. At the same time, it’s not just a simple “switch” that someone turns on and off – it’s a tricky and delicate matter that’s incredibly complex. What I can tell you is that if you’ve got a DStv decoder or an Openview decoder (read our really informative all-you-need-to-know article on p4 for more info about getting Openview installed it home) you don’t need to worry about the digital migration because the decoders and satellite dish means you’re already on digital. If you’re still receiving signal off an aerial on top of your house or with “bunny ears”, you’ll need to get a digital set-top box – which still isn’t entirely readily available – to continue watching channels like SABC1-3 and e.tv (unless you have DStv or Openview) on your TV set.
