“You can’t help but bring your own family stuff into this situation,” says Ben, adding that the cast and crew spoke a lot about the script. “It is because family is so universal and everyone has that, so airing dirty laundry is something we can all relate to in some form.” The characters bring out the worst in each other, “And that makes it a lot of fun for us as actors to play out,” says Kyle. “I think what happens in preparing for 13 episodes is that different things are brought to the table every time we get scripts. We would run home and read them very excitedly because you don’t know what’s going to happen next. The way that the story plays out is not what you expect when you meet the family.”
