Going against the land’s law

A new business venture proves to be a threat to legal-eagle lawyer Leeto’s life.

-

Aseed is planted in Leeto’s (Eric Macheru) mind about taking over a new joint and it’s just what he’s been looking for! “Leeto has low-key been on a search for something more in his life. He might be a successful lawyer, but he’s always wanted something more. Something that compliments another more fun side to his personality. So when Leeto finds out about an opportunity to invest in a club, it’s a no-brainer and he jumps at the opportunity. Finally, something that he can be super passionate about apart from his career,” explains Eric.

But while Leeto is excited, his family – the very conservative Maputlas – are shocked by his new venture. They never thought that their successful son, with the good morals they tried to instil in him, would ever be interested in being involved in this sort of business. “In their eyes, they see the establishment as an unruly place that attracts wrongdoing and evil, and being Christian, they would never endorse it,” Eric adds.

Leeto’s new business venture is met with an unsavoury response not only from his parents but the community as well. “What does a club entail? Entertainment, music and a certain lifestyle. But it also entails noise and booze and can sometimes be a hub for drugs. The community doesn’t want their kids exposed to a club and the possibilities of what it could bring,” Eric explains the reason for Turfloop’s resistance to what Leeto sees as a golden opportunity – and they’re ready to fight him for it.

AGAINST ALL ODDS

Despite Leeto’s family and community’s disapproval, he continues to pursue his passion for co-owning a club. But just when his excitement is at an all-time high and the deal is as good as sealed, Leeto receives chilling news about his offscreen business partner Sewisha. “Something tragic happens to Sewisha that plants fear in Leeto,” says Eric, careful not to spoil anything about what takes place.

Leeto is so afraid by the change in situation that he decides to take advice from his friend Lord Of The Flies (Archie Nhlapo) and he organises protection. “After what happened to his business partner, Leeto and Lord think that it’s a good idea to always stay shielded from attackers. Even if it means they have to get weapons themselves,” says Eric.

But even that doesn’t seem enough to protect Leeto from the person trying to harm him, because

Sergeant Babeile (Mathews

Manamela) arrives at the Maputla house with disturbing news about Leeto. “He tells them after an investigation it’s clear Leeto needs police protection. This worries his parents even more, especially given the fact that they were against the club idea – which seems to be the root of the evil – from the very beginning,” adds Eric.

OUT OF THE FRYING PAN… INTO THE FIRE!

Feeling more safe, Leeto can hardly believe it when he meets his worst nightmare right at his doorstep: “Loanshark Dragon (relative newcomer Julius Kgole) rocks up, and if you know who Dragon is, you’ll know that it’s never a good thing if he knocks on your door. People in the community fear him because he isn’t afraid to hurt and he isn’t afraid to kill,” Eric adds.

As if Dragon’s presence isn’t trouble enough, Leeto’s pal Lord Of The Flies runs his mouth off at the wrong time and gets himself and Leeto into even more trouble. Lord haphazardly says something implicating him and Leeto, but at the time he isn’t aware of Sergeant Babeile’s presence. Babeile hears him and takes action,” Eric reveals.

Leeto and Lord should proceed with caution from now on because viewers all know how thorough Sergeant Babeile is when he’s on the case – we saw how he single-handedly managed to solve the big murder case of Mr Kgomo’s (Lebohang Oliphant) daughter Kelebogile Kgomo (who appeared to be a ghost, played by Mmathema Kgomo) last year.

Good thing Leeto is a lawyer – he might just be needing his own services if he continues with this club business!
