Mlambos on the move!
The new hospital owners are about to cause mayhem in more than just the corridors…
Let’s be honest, parents can be quite frustrating sometimes. So it’s no big surprise that Luyolo (Karabo Maseko) got a little annoyed with his parents when we first saw them on our screens in the beginning of November – although he has had good reason for not getting along with his mother and father.
But Luyolo soon learns something that leads him to change his tune, and his parents Donald (Patrick Mofokeng, Brian in Netflix series Blood & Water, see more on p8) and Busisiwe Mlambo (Ayanda Borotho, Phumelele Zungu on cancelled telenovela Isibaya) are caught off guard by what their son has to say. “Luyolo has always been very critical of his parents and how they do business. He thought that they’re motivated by money instead of doing good. But when a nurse tells him how his parents actually helped her brother, he changes his tune. Luyolo realises that his parents are actually doing good. So he pays them a visit and tells them that they have his respect. They are giving help to people who would have received substandard medical care,” Karabo says.
Things seem to be looking up for the Mlambo family when mother and son have to work together when a man’s about to die – and what better way for medical professionals to bond than by saving a life? But it doesn’t take long for the cracks to start showing again and threaten to destroy the newfound bond . . .
SHADY BUSINESS
It’s clear that Luyolo changed his tune about his parents too soon, and it’s Mr Mlambo who once again proves why Luyolo has always been critical of his parents’ methods in the medical field. Fellow doctor Sphe (Pearl Monama) is shocked by Donald’s lack of compassion when she witnesses something (tune in to see more!). And despite warnings from Busisiwe about sticking his nose where it
doesn’t belong, Donald is as stubborn as ever while Busisiwe can see that they are once again alienating their son. Donald even gets a warning to stop pushing his personal agenda, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to stop him – and we are not allowed to say more!
While Busisiwe doesn’t approve of her husband’s machinations, she goes along with it anyway. But Sphe can see what they’re up to and she is trying her utmost not to let them get away with it. In true Sphe style, she confronts her ex’s parents but instantly feels bad about how she did it. When she shares her sorrow with Luyolo, he reassures Sphe and tells her to be firm as he too has had enough of their scheming ways. “Sphe thinks that she was rude to Luyolo’s parents. She feels bad and thinks she should apologise to them
– I mean, they are her bosses after all. Luyolo tells her to stand her ground. Being firm is the only language his parents understand,” Karabo reveals.
TIME FOR A MAKOTI
Luyolo’s parents are shaking up all spheres of his life, from work, right down to who he should be spending the rest of his life with! Yip, they think it’s time for him to settle down. “He realises that his parents are try-ing to set him up with a woman they think is perfect for him. They want him to start thinking about his legacy. He must settle and start a family. He calls his parents out on their meddling, but they insist that they are acting in his best interest,” Karabo says.
Time will tell if they will win this battle . . . or if Luyolo will get his way and marry whoever he chooses in his own time. But until that happens, a lot more will be going down in the hospital, and Sphe may get caught in the middle of the power struggle . . .
MEET THE MLAMBOS
Busisiwe and Donald are a wealthy power couple. She is a renowned surgeon who’s also Sphe’s idol. Busisiwe is from a wealthy family and oozes opulence. Donald is a medicine mogul – a businessman who works in the field of medicine. He’s also an acquaintance of Nkosiyabo (Muzi Mthabela), and he’s highly confident in himself – a characteristic that is often seen as arrogant. Busisiwe and Donald are the new owners of the hospital where Luyolo and Sphe work.
