PROFESSOR T INTERVIEW
Season 2 of Professor T digs into Jasper’s (Ben Miller) childhood when his mom, Adelaide (Frances De La Tour), returns.
“We know the unhappiness they both went through due to his abusive alcoholic dad,” says Frances. “Adelaide is probably not the greatest mom. She doesn’t handle things well, but they love each other. They’re quite co-dependent because of that shared history… damaged relationships are so fascinating.”
Frances adds that her favourite scenes with Ben this season include where she’s having a go at him in the painting studio, or shouting at him through the letterbox because he won’t let her in. “There’s a lovely scene where I’m trying to talk to him and he’s slowly closing the door in my face, and a dinner scene where some of his childhood stuff was being revealed and concealed.”
Adelaide’s favourite painting subject seems to be Kafka the dog. “There was a bit of discussion over whether Adelaide’s art is any good, and we decided that, if she’s having an exhibition at a gallery, she either has to be reasonably good or she has just bought out the gallery,” hints Frances.
