The festive season don’t always play out well on our favourite shows, especially soapies where anything can and often does happen to our favourite characters like Koloi (Joseph Tshepo Senatle) on Skeem Saam. But away from the set and storylines, the actors love to be with friends and family, says Joseph. “Home is where the heart is. Sometimes you’re not with your family, so then be with friends!”

The festive season is also a time for reflection and introspection, says the actor. “There’s an emotional time and space for connection where you need to look back at the year that was and ahead to the year that is – you make your future and it’s important to make time for yourself so that you know what you’re doing with your life.”

And that’s something that Joseph hopes his character will be able to get right this December. “I’m really hopeful that Koloi will be able to get over his mistakes, to look past them and get to a healthy space. He really needs to sort out some of the life decisions that he’s made in 2022. Life is hard for him, it has been for the past few years. So a break and getting ready for his varsity life is going to be amazing.” The actor adds that falling in love was a great storyline and he’s hopeful that it’s going to stay strong. “Koloi has gone into this relationship fully aware that his girlfriend is HIV+. That’s a real-life topic that we live with in this world, so to play it out – happily – onscreen is an amazing opportunity that I’m praying goes well.”

And for fans? “I wish you a happy, healthy Christmas,” Joseph says.
