Happy 2023 from Uzalo

The new year is going to bring all-new drama, action and love triangles for your favourite Uzalo characters!

-

2022the was a dramafilled year in community of KwaMashu. Uzalo’s characters, from ruthless crimelord Nkunzi (Masoja Msiza) faking his own death, to the introduction of two violent new rivals in the form of Vika (Siyabonga Radebe) and

Mthambisi aka Putin (Buyile Mdladla) – the action and suspense kept viewers on the edge of their seats. And that’s exactly why 2023 is going to be a huge one for the SABC1 soapie, says Masoja. “Nkunzi always wants to do good in his community. He cares for the people even though he’s a thug and a criminal. He still has a heart and I think the new year is going to be important…”

FIXING A BROKEN HEART

Nkunzi loves with more than his heart and he is faithful to his one true love Gabisile (Baby Cele). She’s the only woman who’s managed to keep him on the straight and narrow over the years and there’s nothing Nkunzi won’t do for her, more so after she too returned from the dead when she was swept down river and was rescued by a nearby village. But 2022 ended with Gabi turning her back on Nkunzi and falling for Putin, whose charming ways swept her off her feet. “Nkunzi right now is Gabi’s past and Putin is her future. That’s not something Nkunzi is going to let go without a fight. So expect a lot of fireworks in 2023,” warns Masoja.

But Gabi and Nkunzi aren’t the only couple who’ll be looking forward to fixing things in 2023.

Nosipho (Nompilo Maphumulo) and her bae Pastor

Gwala (Menzi Biyela) have been on edge ever since Gwala’s teenage son Nkazimulo (Tshepo Duncabe) gatecrashed their babyshower and stole the spotlight from the expecting parents. “This young man is troubled and he’s come searching for his father. Instead, he’s found a man who is having a new baby, one that he wants, with this woman who isn’t his mother. So there’s animosity there from Nkazimulo,” says Menzi. “It’s going to be a difficult start to 2023 as there is so much anger in a time that should be happy for the new parents. Now they’re seeing their joy and happiness compromised by a teenager who doesn’t understand life or love. That’s going to cause drama…”
