2022 was a wild year for Lorcia Khumalo’s character Jo on telenovela
The Estate. And the year ahead may not get any better, says the actress. “Jo has been put through so many trials and tribulations in the past – last year pushed her limits. She’s had enough of all the drama that’s gone on because she hasn’t been able to control things. When Jo is in control of situations, she’s good.”
Part of 2022’s stresses for Jo were the police’s inability to do their job and investigate political leader and corruption kingpin
Castro (Aubrey Poo). “Jo found evidence. She got confessions. She got literally everything she could find, and it should’ve been enough to put Castro behind bars when one of the ministers had his drink spiked and he was involved in a car crash that wasn’t an accident,” says Lorcia.
For the year ahead, Jo already has her head screwed on straight and it’s going to get tense, explains the actress .“Jo is going to live up to the motto of the police always getting their man. She’s going to make sure that Castro, the corrupt ministers and anyone else involved with this shady business is put behind bars.” But there’s more to Jo than just her work as a no-nonsense cop…
She’s involved romantically with troubled doctor Martin
van Wyk (Jacques Blignaut). “They’ve had a few ups and downs but things are going well for them now. They’ve put their fights and arguments behind them as it’s not worth it. They want to take their relationship forward in 2023,” says Lorcia. See more on p19.
