HOWICK BOWLING CLUB

-

What a week for Umgeni Waterfall Bowling Club. It was with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Timothy Whitfield Waring on Monday morning.

Tim was one of our longest standing members and always had a welcoming smile, a kind word and a bowl on the jack.

He will be missed by all his fellow bowlers, but his tab will always be in.

Tuesday saw us enjoying a fun day of Killer Bowls. The format for the day was 4-3-2-1 and with over 70 players our greens were very busy!

There was a lot of laughter and merriment throughout the day with lots of prizes handed out at the end. The overall winner was Colin Burden with 80 points, followed by Colin Norris and John Walker.

Well done to Lisa Nagel, Kevin Palmer and Sharon Trower for their hard work in organising the whole day and thank you to all those who came and supported us.

The Halfway Toyota Drawn Trips competition was held on Wednesday. Despite such a busy day on Tuesday, there was a good turnout of players and the competition was enjoyed by all.

Well done to Barry Fairbrother and Koos Marais who were the winners on the day, followed by Mike Cain and Grace Mainprize. Thank you to Halfway Toyota for their sponsorship.

Despite loquacious chatter in the midst of rinks, Mariana Goddard and Frans Brooks won first prize in the Scottish Leader nominated mixed 242 competition with plus nine points, one point better than second placed, Lester Ballantine and Terry Peate.

Third prize went to Graham Duggie and Lynda Drogemoller with plus three points.

The Plate Prize was won by Patrick Carter-Brown and Buzzy Basson.

We would like to thank Scottish Leader for their generous prizes of quality products for, without their big-heartedness, this event would not have attracted the packed greens with zealous bowlers.
