Traffic and police officers join forces for Women’s Day

- ESTELLE SINKINS

UMngeni Mayor Chris Pappas, thanked the women working for the traffic department for their dedication during a roadblock on the R617 on Women’s Day.

uMngeni Municipality’s staff were joined by the Mpophomeni SAPS and members of the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate. They checked vehicles were properly licensed and were road worthy and that the drivers had licenses.

Pappas said they had shown themselves to be role models for young women and proved that working in the traffic department, police and security sector was not just the domain of men.

He added that their dedication and sacrifices were especially appreciated given the challenges faced in law enforcement, ranging from the lack of resources to the long hours people had to work.

“Thank you for everything that you do. We learn from you. We rely on you,” Pappas said.

The roadblock was also attended by private security firms, the Howick Community Policing Forum, uMngeni Speaker Councillor Janis Holmes and Deputy Mayor Sandile Mnikathi.
