Dream production at Michaelhouse
Pupils from Michaelhouse and Howick High School will be performing in William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at 7pm on Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 and at 2.30pm on Friday, September 2.
One of the Bard’s most loved plays, A Midsummer Night’s
Dream is light, fun, full of mischief and hopeful towards transformation from chaos to order and hate to love.
The play is set in Athens, and consists of several subplots that revolve around the marriage of Theseus and Hippolyta.
One subplot involves a conflict among four Athenian lovers. Another follows a group of six amateur actors rehearsing the play which they are to perform before the wedding.
Both groups find themselves in a forest inhabited by fairies who manipulate the humans and are engaged in their own domestic intrigue.
“Perhaps this is the tonic to make sense of our current chaotic state, to look back to the Bard, and to dream,” says theatre director, William Le Cordeur.
Tickets for the play, which will take place in the Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse, are R50 at https://www.quicket.co.za/.../185221-midsummernights-dream/
