GROWING OLD DISGRACEFULLY

-

Cabaret artist, Tonya Koenderman, is bringing her hilarious comedy cabaret, Growing Old Disgracefully, to the Hilton

College Theatre at 7pm on Tuesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 17.

Do you put your car keys in the fridge? Do you walk into a room and forget why you went there in the first place? Are your arms starting to resemble bat wings? You are not alone!

Koenderman’s show offers a light-hearted, frank look at the funny side of ageing. It includes plenty of musical favourites – some with a wicked twist.

The evergreen but, perhaps, dated These Are A Few Of My Favourite Things has been rebooted to embrace more age-appropriate themes.

All About That Bass is now an ode to make-up and other anti-ageing tools, while the classic Memories, from the musical Cats, is now about … sorry, can’t remember.

Koenderman started her career fresh out of drama school with Kevin Feather's cabaret, The Dooh Wah Girls in 1990.

She also appeared in the shows,

We 3, Juke is King, Jive to the Juke, Wurlitzer, All of Woman and

Shake Your Bootie, which were performed throughout South Africa.

Her solo cabarets include Tonya Unwrapped, Makin' Whoopee, Liza with a T, Age of Aquarius, A Night In Paris, When Jazz Was King and

Born To Diva.

Tickets for Growing Old Disgracefully are R140 at www. quicket.co.za

There will be an animal drawing workshop, run by Chris Khoury, at the Giverny Country Studios in Curry’s Post on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11.

He will be equipping participants with the tools they need to create accurate representational drawings of wildlife.

‘You can only paint as well as you can draw’, a quote by John Singer Sargent, is something Khoury believes in and why he enjoys teaching people the basics of drawing realistically.

Based in Pinetown, he runs a commercial art business with his wife, but his big passion is painting and drawing and specifically wildlife.

“I love painting Africa, its wildlife and its sun-drenched landscape,” Khoury says. “Being deeply spiritual I want to glorify my Creator in all I do, especially in my paintings and in the way I live my life.”

For more information about the workshop email Hermine at hermine.coleman@gmail.com or message her at 082 652 5682.
