RED ALERT!
The Village Talk team well and truly painted the town red when we joined in the fun of the Midlands Hospice Colour Run on Saturday. Head advertising representative, Mandy Steel, dressed up as Stuart the Minion, while editor, Estelle Sinkins, opted to be a strawberry and her husband, Graydon, donned the guise of Spongebob Squarepants. They're pictured here after the colourful chaos that ensued at our station near Howick High School. Also in the after picture is Mandy's daughter, Maxine.
Spongebob Squarepants and Stuart the Minion proved to be a massive hit with this year’s Midlands Hospice colour runners.
Based outside Howick
High School on Saturday, Village Talk manned the red station and there was plenty of fun and games as the participants tried to escape being pelted by advertising representative, Mandy Steel, and Graydon Sinkins, husband of editor, Estelle.
More than 140 people took part in this year’s Colour Run, raising over R13 000 for Hospice.
The 5km walk/run got underway at the Hospice premises in Mansfield Road, Howick, at 8am. The route took them past other colour stations manned by Ecochill Refrigeration and Airconditioning, Mosaic Funeral Group Midlands and the Howick Small Animal and Midlands Veterinary Clinic.
Meghan Coslett, marketing coordinator for Midlands Hospice, thanked the sponsors for making it possible to bring colour to the event.
“Special thanks to Midlands EMS for keeping runners safe along the route and to Knight Security for being present at Hospice House,” she added.
Fairfield Dairy provided chocolate milk, while Oakleigh Funeral Home ensured there was water to hydrate everyone at the finish.
Those who were feeling famished were able to tuck into pancakes prepared by Howick uMngeni Lions.
“We would also like to thank Kai and his team at Karkloof Canopy Tours for prizes, the Weber family for manning a water station along the way, Heide Goddard from HG Photography for taking photos for us, and the DJ Kev Entertainment team for the music and speaker system,” said Coslett.
“Thank you to all our volunteer marshals who assisted us for the morning and thank you to everyone who was involved it would not have been possible without you.”
