EXCITING WEEKEND OF TRAIL RUNNING AHEAD

-

An exciting weekend of running awaits as the trails of the Karkloof Valley prepare to host South Africa’s fastest 100 Mile foot race.

Presented by the team from the Howick-based KZN Trail Running, this will be the sixth edition of the event that starts and finishes at the Karkloof Country Club.

The premier event, the 100 Miler (approximately 160km with 3 500m of elevation gain) gets underway at 8pm on Friday, September 23. Runners will make their way through the night along the Karkloof trail network of forests and farmlands, passing a series of checkpoints until they reach Benvie Gardens - the halfway point (80km).

They will then turn around and make their way back to the Karkloof Country Club in what is known as an ‘out-and back’ route.

The first 100 Miler runners are expected at the club from 12.30pm on Saturday, September 24 and the final 100 Miler runners between 7am and 8am on Sunday, September 25 – 36 hours after the start.

Alongside the 100 Miler, KZN Trail Running will be hosting 50 Miler, 30 Miler, 20 Miler, 10 Miler and 5 Miler races.

Entries on the day for the 5, 10 and 20 Miler events are subject to availability and a late fee of R50. For more information go to www.karkloof100.co.za

Food, drinks and plenty of exciting activities for kids, including a fully fenced playground, zip-line, pump track and more, will be on offer at the Karkloof Country Club.

Spectators are encouraged to join the organisation for an exciting weekend of running and to play a role in supporting some of South Africa’s finest trail runners as they make their journey through the various distances.

The event is made possible by the support of the local land owners, SAPPI, the Karkloof Country Club, Timber Solutions, the Southern Lodestar Foundation, the Karkloof Conservancy, Umgeni Tourism and Love Howick.
