MUSIC AND ART FESTIVAL
The Durban Chamber Choir will be performing a glorious concert at the Hilton College Chapel on Sunday, October 9 at 2.30pm, entitled Ave Adieu.
The musical programme looks at moments of meeting and parting, as symbolised by the greetings ‘Ave’ (Latin for ‘Hail’) and ‘Adieu’ (French for ‘Farewell’), Latin and French being the two languages which the choir will be singing in addition to English.

The Maritzburg Tutor Centre (MTC) will be hosting a music and art festival, to celebrate the school’s 10th anniversary, mystical joy) and parting (regretful sorrow, gentle nostalgia, grateful acceptance).
It also ranges widely across time and space, from the Renaissance (music by Josquin des Pres, Thomas Weelkes and Orlando Gibbons), through the late 19th century (Bruckner) and early 20th century (Ravel), to the present compositions by the young American composer Daniel Elder and the choir’s director, Christopher Cockburn.
American and Irish folk traditions will also be represented in from 10.30am to 2pm on Saturday, October 8.
St Charles College and MTC art teacher, Mary-Ann Hartley, has put together the programme, which includes works by mother and daughter, Inka and Kenya Henderson, and teacher and student, Hartley and Daffodil de Jager, as well as works by other MTC art students.
Compere for the day is scriptwriter, director, producer and performer, Paul Spence. He has written, directed and produced Heart of Saturday Night, Sundown in Paris, New York State of Mind, This is Me, a dance extravaganza and Who Killed the Easter Bunny, to name a few. Spence will do a guest appearance singing a very popular Neil Diamond song.

This is the first series of performances for the Durban Chamber Choir since the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.
This is also the choir’s last concerts with Christopher Cockburn as their director, as he will be retiring at the end of the year.

Billy Joel, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Don Maclean and other popular artists.
Joining them is St Charles music teacher, Kristen Wepener, with her original compositions and interpretations of well-known songs. Wepener has had two successful appearances at MiTH this year and recently released her first CD.
The St Charles Chamber choir, conducted by Wepener will follow with some beautiful classics.
The festival takes place at MTC, on the corner of Connaught and New England road, and there is parking outside the centre or at the Checkers Mall.
Entry is R50 and there will be cappuccinos, hot chocolate, iced teas, samoosas, pies and quiches on offer.
After a three year absence, Andre The Hilarious Hypnotist, is back in the Midlands to unleash magical mayhem.
He will be performing at the Hilton College Theatre at 7.30pm from October 12 to 15. There will also be a 3pm show on Sunday, October 16.
Andre hypnotises members from the audience, changing them into Superman, sprinklers, washing machines, typewriters and a whole bunch of other side splitting characters which range from the sublime to the unimaginable.
Having studied hypnosis under the watchful eye of mentor, Max Collie, Andre has been using his ability to fill theatres for the past 30 years.
No two shows are ever the same, with the hypnotist admitting that he never knows what the evening’s entertainment is going to provide. His routines are suitable for children and adults.
