CELEBRATING THE POWER OF LIGHT

Tamil readers and advertisers a wonderful Diwali.

Diwali – the annual Indian festival of lights, which celebrates the triumph of good over evil – will take place on Monday, October 24.

The name comes from the Sanksrit dipavali, meaning ‘row of lights’ and on the night of Diwali celebrants light dozens of candles and clay lamps (called diyas), placing them throughout their homes and in the streets to light up the dark night. Fireworks are also set off to ward off evil spirits.

Another central theme of Diwali is family, who dress up in new clothes and gather together to eat sweets and other special foods, light diyas and pray for their ancestors.
