GOLFERS SET TO TEE OFF FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Golfers in Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands are being urged to tee up for a good cause from 8am on Sunday, October 30.
Anthoo, Marion and Associates, in association with Howick Golf Club, will be hosting a four-ball better ball stableford competition, with a shotgun start, to help raise money for the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, Our Lady of Good Health.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society tends to the needs of the poor in the Raisethorpe, Northdale, Copesville, Swapo and surrounding communities.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, the organisation has been unable to fundraise for the past three years.
“Our society embarks on fundraisers in order to assist those in need,” a spokesperson for the Society said. “These funds are utilised to assist the poor and needy who simply do not know where the next plate of food will come from.
“Apart from this initiative, we also run a soup kitchen every Thursday, which feeds approximately 200 homeless people.”
Another key initiative of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society is a sewing project, during which unemployed women were taught skills to help them become self-sufficient.
“We do not just give those fish, but teach them how to fish,” the spokesperson said. “This project has been put on hold due to Covid-19 and we want to resume the project.
“The group had become extremely successful and the products they sold allowed them to earn an income and become self-sufficient.”
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is appealing to local golfers and businesses to support their projects by entering for the golf day and sponsoring tee boxes, holes and the clubhouse tee or by providing prizes for the event.
Entry is R250 per player. If you would like to enter, or would like to be a sponsor for the event, please email admin@anthooandmarion. co.za
