Angel Paws celebrates a year of spreading joy

-

School children, hospital patients, children with special educational needs and the elderly have all benefited from the therapy delivered by the delightful dogs at Angel Paws.

The organisation started just one year ago with two dogs, Rebecca and Bailey, and has grown to include Fran Hamilton with

Pixie and Chase, Mary Campos with Roxy,

Cherylann Gainsford with Tripp, Trish Von

Niebel with Cody, Lynn Devine with Jess, and Angie Thornton with Tickle.

Almost finished with their trainee visits are Rike Voigt with Rae.

Speaking to Village Talk, Angie Thornton, from Angel Paws Therapy Dogs, said:

“We have regular visits to Amberfield Care

Centre, Amberglen Care Centre, Oasis and Thembelihle Prep Schools, and Hilton Life

Hospital.”

She added that they could do so much more, however, if they got more dogs and handlers to sign up to the programme.

“What we are looking for in a therapy dog handler team is a handler that is proactive with their dog, and who can commit to visits on a regular basis,” said Thornton.

“A dog that is naturally calm, friendly and affectionate to strangers, who’s well trained in basic manners, and is easily adaptable to new noises, places and smells.”

If you think you and your four-legged friend have what it takes to become a therapy dog, then why not attend the next evaluation on November 6.
