MERRIVALE GETS A FLORAL MAKE-OVER

-

Merrivale residents have banded together to give a stretch of Main Road, opposite the Merrivale SuperSpar, a makeover.

Grass has been removed and replaced with a selection of plants, donated by locals and bought using donations made by the Merrive SuperSpar and the Pharmacy at Merrivale SuperSpar.

Neville Cusens, from Xtra Merrivale, which is in charge of the project, said: “Wow! That is about the only word that can describe how grateful we are as a team.

“The response from our community was enormous to say the least.

“With donations coming in from residents of Merrivale and others as far as the Karkloof, we were able to make a start and planted many plants already with the help from our verge masters preparing the area.”

He added that Merrivale SuperSpar, the Pharmacy at Merrivale SuperSpar and the Merrivale center management donated R5 000 for them to spend at Hopewell Supplies, who in return will be supplying plants and flowers at cost price.

These plants will help transform the verges in Main Road and ensure that Merrivale blooms from the N3 to ‘as far they can get towards Howick’, said Cusens.

“All sorts of plants and flowers will be planted on the verges to make our main road the prettiest in the Midlands,” he added.

“The delivery from Hopewells will take place soon and we’ll get those plants in as soon as possible, before we move onto the next section of our main road.”
