Twelve-year-old Dylan Ward, has penned a book about the weird and wonderful world of phobias.

If you have you ever wondered what the fear of vacuum cleaners or peanut butter is, then A Pocket Encycloped­ia of Phobias, now in its second edition, is the book for you.

It contains over 250 phobias, around a hundred more than the first edition. It also has a new section that covers interestin­g themebased phobias.

The EC’s 80’s Mix Tape! will be staged at La Popote at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm in Hilton at 6pm for 6.30pm on Friday, January 27 and the Allan Wilson Shellhole publish a book, Dylan, who lives in Hilton, said: “It all started with a list of phobias and it seemed enough for a small book.”

His interest in the topic comes down to loving the way the names of the phobias sound when pronounced. For example, Pophyropho­bia is pronounced ‘por-fy-ro-fobee-a.

His favourite phobia is Hippopotom­onstrosesq­uippedalio­phobia, which is the fear of long words.

As for what he has learned about publishing a book, he says: “I learned that Ctrl Z is very important when writing a book and that a long armed stapler is always needed.”

Kath McClelland, Charles Webster and Paul Spence will be bringing their show, Diamond is Forever, which celebrates the music of Neil Diamond, to the Barn Owl in Curry's Post on Friday,
