SECOND-HAND FURNITURE SALES HELP UMNGENI SPCA

-

Upscaling, downsizing or just moving on? Whatever the scenario, the process typically creates a set of stressful challenges and subsequent decisions to be made.

We all know that regardless of sentimental attachment, most home and household items don’t have an asset or re-sale value per se.

As the audit and paring down process proceeds of books, clothing, ornaments, crockery, cutlery, kitchen appliances and implements, garden tools and general household items, it usually boils down to what to do with the stuff to go.

Howick has a variety of reputable organisations from churches to charities and NGOS who are always deeply appreciative of useable items to move along to less fortunate community members. Midlands Hospice and SPCA charity shops will gratefully take sellable items to generate funds to support their worthy causes.

Disposing of furniture is another matter altogether, however. It has monetary value.

One option is to dispatch the items off to auction but there are no guarantees that the prices fetched will be market-related

and commission fees will also be deducted. Another route is to post the goods online. This can take time to find a willing buyer and carries the risk of admitting strangers into your home.

A lesser-known choice is the umngeni SPCA. Management committee chairman John Lewis elaborates: “We have built a thriving second-hand furniture trade through our three charity shops but the bulk of the demand and subsequent sales are generated through our Main Street outlet.

“This revenue has become a significant contributor to our sales which go towards covering the costs of caring for the needs of animals in our community.”

Gunter Oellermann has decades of experience in furniture sales and has run the umngeni SPCA’S retail operations for over 11 years.

He explained: “The process is simple and transparent. Call the SPCA Centre 033 330 6548 and book an appointment to view.

I’ll come along, have a look and

offer a fair, market-related price. If accepted, we will collect the furniture free of charge. The funds will be transferred by EFT and an invoice will be provided.”

It’s a no stress, no fuss solution for selling unwanted furniture for the price it deserves. And for a reputable good cause.
