GOLFERS RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL SPCA

-

Mooi River Country Club recently hosted a golf day to help the local Mooi River & District SPCA. Everyone had a great time and also raised much-needed funds for kennel upgrades and repairs, and food for the animal welfare charity.

“We were delighted to be able to raise over R21 000 as well as collecting donated dog food to the value of R2 000,” says Russell Trott, who is on the Mooi River Country Club committee.

“The staff at our SPCA are absolutely awesome,” added Russell. “The care given to the animals there is just amazing. If you’re looking for a new furry family member, why don’t you head over and go see some of the friendliest cats and dogs you’ll ever meet!”

Golf captain Gary Els visited the SPCA kennels last week to hand over the cheque to the SPCA team, headed up by volunteer management committee chairlady Vicky Pollock, who thanked everyone involved in the golf day.

“Like all SPCAS across the country, we were started by our community as a way to help prevent cruelty across our area. Without support from our community we would not be able to stay open, and would face closure, as many other SPCAS have done in recent years,” she added.

“Fundraising events such as this golf day are vital for us - thank you all for making a difference to our animals in need. We are excited about being able to afford the facility upgrades that have been on the to-do list for so long.”

The Mooi River & District SPCA also benefited to the tune of R55 000 following the A Beautiful Day event at Fordoun.

“This design and decor extravaganza was a resounding success and we sincerely hope to be included when it happens again. Sincere thanks to everyone who was part of this Midlands celebration of all things beautiful, most especially the stellar Nicola Hadfield and Dee During who made it all happen,” said spokesperson, Gaynor Lawson.

She also thanked residents who helped the SPCA get their bakkie back on the road.

“Sincere thanks to the crew at Mooi Auto Clinic, especially Ashley. They only charged us for the parts needed and not for towing... how amazing is that? A furry hug and kiss to everyone who donated money towards settling the account for the repairs. We couldn’t stay open without the support from our incredible community - thank you all!,” Lawson added.
