Citizens need to be well-informed about pivotal issues — Rise Mzansi
Rise Mzansi used its Freedom Day commemoration in Howick over the weekend to highlight the need for voters to be well-informed about crucial issues such as water scarcity and land rights.
The party said these were issues around pivotal resources that
South Africans need to engage with.
Anele Ndlovu, a member of Rise Mzansi’s provincial leadership and a candidate for both the provincial legislature and national assembly, highlighted the impact of misinformation and educational deficits on public understanding and policy.
“It is crucial that they [citizens] have a more comprehensive understanding, especially about issues like access to clean water and land rights.”
Explaining the party’s role in addressing these issues, she said: “As a new political force,
we are committed to understanding and addressing the complexities of water, land, and unemployment. Our goal is to equip the public with accurate information to enable them to make informed electoral decisions.”
The discussions also ventured into the specifics of land expropriation without compensation, a key policy stance for Rise Mzansi.
“The constitution already allows for expropriation, and our stance on doing so without compensation applies when there is a public necessity,” Ndlovu clarified.
Land reform activist Donna Hornby also spoke at the event, reinforcing the legislative progress related to this policy.
“This isn’t just theoretical; it’s embedded in law. The expropriation bill has progressed through parliament and consultations and now awaits the president’s signature,” Hornby noted.
