Latin American flavour at MITH

-

Pan Latino will be bringing some Latin American flair to Music in the Hills at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm in Hilton on Wednesday, May 8.

Kech (vocal, guitar, flute, pan pipe, charango and percussion) and Daniel (guitar, vocal and percussion) mix the sounds of Latin America with African flavour and lyrics in Spanish.

Their music is a combination of free-spirited and inspired original songs, and a bunch of covers too, including music from Gypsy Kings, and some well-known songs in the genre.

Also performing this week is the duo, Blackbird, made up of Tanya Nicolson and Charles Webster. Their diverse repertoire covers sultry jazz, upbeat folk, indie styles with soul, and twists on contemporary classics.

Having been in the acting and music world, professionally, since the age of eight, Nicolson has performed all over the country, in genres ranging from cabaret to serious theatre with a fair amount of physical theatre.

Webster, with his smooth baritone and distinctive folk-rock rhythm guitar, has become a fixture of the local Midlands music scene over the last decade or more.

He provides the perfect platform for Tanya’s vocal work whilst bringing his own singing talent and musicianship to the fore.

Opening the evening’s musical programme is Emily Weber, a vibrant 14-yearold pupil at Howick High School.

At the age of nine, she embarked on her musical journey with piano lessons, but it was at 11 when she discovered her true musical love — the whimsical sound of the ukulele, which she says you can’t help but smile when playing.

Her musical palate is broad, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures around the globe. Currently, the Latin genre holds a special place in her heart. This affinity is largely thanks to her mentor, Howick’s legendary Kech Sanchez.

MITH takes place every second Wednesday at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm, Knoll Drive, Hilton. Doors open at 6pm and the music will kick off at 7pm. Entrance is R50 at the door. Food and soft drinks are available for sale. A cash bar is available.
