MING-CHEAU LIN, FREEL ANCE WRITER
International travel permitting, my folks and sister; my best friend Nicole and her partner (I guess it’s only fair he gets to join in) back in Cape Town, and my little brother in Cayman. A freelance copywriter, and co-founder and ex-skater for the Cape Town Rollergirls NPO, Ming-Cheau is the author of Just Add Rice (Quivertree Publications, 2018) – the first locally published East Asian cookbook in South Africa.
Her memoir, Yellow And Confused (Kwela Books, 2019) is referenced in international academic works on the
Asian diaspora. Now living in the Bay Area in California, Ming-Cheau says she “continues writing and eating, representing South Africa”. In this issue, she penned one of our regular thought pieces (page 28), in which she explores the feeling of connection she experienced through her smartphone during the pandemic.
