Hit-and-run teen ‘should face up’

- NONI MOKATI

THE parents of a little girl who was mown down on Valentine’s Day, allegedly by a teenage motorcyclist, have called on the culprit to come forward and take responsibility.

Shane Durgaparsad and Vanessa Naidoo, of Kempton Park, want the public to help the police find the rider who almost killed their youngest daughter. They say they want justice.

“Knowing there’s someone out there who did this and is walking free is upsetting. What are we teaching our children? He must face up to what he did,” said Durgaparsad.

Krystnn Ameliah Durgaparsad, four, was knocked down while walking home with her childminder, her brother Kiaan, six, and sister Kaylee, 11.

According to earlier reports, the unknown motorcyclist was believed to be a pupil at a nearby school who deliberately hit Ameliah, flinging her 15m from a pedestrian crossing.

He then made a u-turn and drove over her body and face, severely lacerating her face.

When Kaylee’s sister pleaded with the rider to help, he swore at them and told they should “watch where you’re going”, before speeding off.

The little girl and her childminder Gracious Ndebele had just fetched her siblings from Kempton Park Primary School when the incident occurred.

A distraught Ndebele said yesterday she was still traumatised by what she had witnessed.

Yesterday police spokesman Jethro Mtshali said no arrests had been made, but that investigators were making progress in identifying the suspect.
