Little deli big on food

-

Café: The Daily Deli Address: 13 Brownlow Road, Tamboerskloof Contact Number: 021 426 0250 Operating Hours: 8am to 10pm Dish Eaten: The Full Monte Price: R67 TUCKED away in a side street beneath Table Mountain, The Daily Deli is a Tamboerskloof treasure.

Owned and run by Theresa Daly (pun intended), the deli is open every day except Christmas and Easter and offers breakfasts, pizzas and homemade bakes and cakes.

Breakfasts are served all day. The signature breakfast is the Full Monte and should be tackled only by the ravenous or the hungover. It consists of a large open croissant with mushrooms, bacon and avocado on one half, scrambled egg smothered in melted Emmenthaler cheese on the other, and grilled tomatoes on the side.

My colleague ordered avocado on health toast. There was no health toast so she had wholewheat and added Emmenthaaler cheese. To drink, she had freshly squeezed orange juice (R16).

The deli is known to serve a decent brew, but the latté (R20) I ordered was a little foamy.

For lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers pizzas with generous toppings. For dessert or afternoon tea there is a selection of cakes and brownies. The deli stocks bread, milk, vegetables, fruit, tinned goods, rusks and biscuits, including gluten-free and sugar-free. You can bring your own dishes to purchase pasta and vegetable bakes by the kilogram. – RebeccaJackman
