The Sessions: A 38-year-old man confined to an iron lung decides to lose his virginity with the guidance of his therapists and priest. ★★★★ Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 3D: Norwegian writer-director Tommy Wirkola drags this Brothers Grimm fairy tale into the 21st century with a plot twist and genre mash-up. It’s mindless good fun, filled with bloodsplattering violence. ★★★ Beautiful Creatures: Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town. But too much of the movie is sadly messy. ★★★ Verraaiers: Commandant Jacobus van Aswegen is a father, husband and a respected Boer officer. Upon hearing that the British are planning a “scorched earth”-strategy, he and his sons leave the frontlines to go home to protect their family, a decision which results in them being tried for high treason. Not reviewed.

Zero Dark Thirty: Kathryn Bigelow brings the manhunt for Osama bin Laden to life in this mesmerising and, at times, harrowing film. ★★★★★ Quartet: A sweetly harmonious film about a house for ageing musicians which smoothly navigates the perilous line between insufferably twee and heartbreakingly grim. ★★★★ A Good Day to Die Hard: John McClane (Bruce Willis) goes to Moscow to help his son, Jack (Jai Courtney) when he is arrested, but as usual, McClane is quickly caught up himself in a terrorist conspiracy. ★★ Mama: This film is scary enough, but
