It’s mindless good fun, filled with bloodsplattering violence. ★★★ Beautiful Creatures: Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town. But too much of the movie is sadly messy. ★★★ Verraaiers: Commandant Jacobus van Aswegen is a father, husband and a respected Boer officer. Upon hearing that the British are planning a “scorched earth”-strategy, he and his sons leave the frontlines to go home to protect their family, a decision which results in them being tried for high treason.
