Cocktail Corner

Bar: estreet bar Address: Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Cape Town, Upper Eastside, 31 Brickfield Road, Salt River, Cape Town Contact: 021 404 0570 Cocktail: estreet-tini Price: R32 Ingredients: Tanqueray gin, Monin watermelon extracts, fresh pomegranate juice, lime, black pepper and basil leaves. HAVING a herb garden can inspire savoury flavours in cocktails.

The estreet-tini was added to estreet bar’s menu, using ingredients from a herb garden that was launched on the roof of what is now the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, last year.

Bartender Micheal Summers makes the drink by shaking all the ingredients together and finestraining the mix into a chilled martini glass.

Don’t worry too much about the kick factor, as it has only one shot of Tanqueray.

The drink is finished off with a single basil leaf garnish.

It is a smooth, savoury drink, with fresh flavours. There’s a strong basil smell as you sip it. I would suggest pairing with the tapas available, such as bruschetta and toppings, tempura vegetables or chicken livers.

The bar is in the Upper Eastside complex, which houses the hotel and residential blocks.

The bar is swanky, complete with a marble counter, upholstered chairs, a secluded smoking lounge and chandeliers.

It has live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm, featuring musicians such as Fiona Hare, Nick Turner and Jeremy Olivier. The bar offers half-price cocktails on Tuesdays.

It is open from 10.30am to 12.30am daily. Wi-fi vouchers are available at the hotel reception desk. –WendylMartin
