Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
Embrace spring, wine
Traditional favourties with a contemporary bite will tempt visitors at Mcgregor’s food and wine festival
FOOD for the soul! This was the rallying cry of the village’s hugely successful poetry festival held recently. This week McGregor’s tourism office is tempting visitors with more earthly pleasures as they announce an appetising menu of fine fare and enjoyable wines at the Food and Wine Festival next weekend.
Scheduled for August 31, this, the 12th celebration of its kind, will be enhanced by orchard blossoms and veld flowers as McGregor embraces spring.
At the church hall, activity will be intense, with chefs and caterers adding a contemporary bite to traditional favourites. Try tasting portions of updated boerekos, haggis hamburgers, sushi and sample sophisticated coffee.
Red, white and rosé wines from valley wineries will be complemented this year with new addi- tions: Esona, Sumsare, Wolfkloof and Quando. Grappas and eaux de vies add further options.

The village restaurants are creating weekend festival menus, and biking and hiking trails beckon from the surrounding hills.
Above all, this is a hospitable, affordable event with covetable prizes awaiting winners. Book your beds soon, bring bikes if you like, and leave space in your car boot for bargain-priced wines.
