Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)

Creativity you must enjoy at least once

-

THE THIRD hotel featured this month is The One&Only Cape Town. This one is quite prolific, with events at Nobu and Reuben’s like, all the time.

Nobu does MCC pairing one month, and the next they invite a winemaker to present a flight of wines. For example, we went to a dinner there with all the courses matched with chenins from Kleine Zalze. Even the as yet unreleased Noble Late Harvest with dessert. That was quite something, not only as a showcase of the variety within the varietal, but the creativity of the food which is something to have at least once in your life.

On the other side of the central Vista Bar is Reuben’s. Okay, so you’re not going to see much of Reuben Riffel himself for a while since he is a newly appointed SA Masterchef judge for season three. As if he isn’t already busy enough, but congratulations to him.

There they have monthly wine nights, with the winemaker in attendance as well as Luvo Ntezo, who is a wunderkind of the wine world. Plus you can enjoy the company of the hotel’s ambassador Aubrey Ngcungama, who hosts the events. Make friends with him because he loves to gossip about the celebrities who visit the hotel. “Victoria Beckham? I’ve seen her look better,” he’ll whisper in your ear. Both men are adorable, but do be careful with the R1 500 wine glasses.

The wine evenings are on the last Wednesday of the month, with Chris Williams from Meerlust showing off some of South Africa’s greatest wines this week. The five course meals are R350 a person. To book call 021 431 4511 or e-mail restaurant.reservations@one andonlycapetown.com
