REPORTS have linked Mitchell’s Plain teenager Morne Nel with an imminent move to Tottenham Hotspur in England, but SuperSport United have shot down any such transfer taking place now.
Nel joined SuperSport from the Old Mutual Academy 18 months ago and has since been on two training and trial trips to the English Premier League club. They like him, he has impressed, but want him to develop a bit more at SuperSport.
The Pretoria club’s coach Gordon Igesund has pencilled midfielder Nel into his plans for the second half of the season – and he is expected to feature prominently in the months to come. AMAZULU have taken a huge risk by signing troubled central defender Mbulelo Mabizela.
The Durban club also announced the signing of Bongi Ntuli and Cape Town-born defender Roscoe Pietersen from SuperSport United.
Mabizela has played for numerous clubs and controversy always seems to follow him. The former Bafana Bafana man has been at Orlando Pirates, Tottenham Hotspur in England, Valerenga in Norway, Mamelodi Sundowns, Platinum Stars, Wits, Chippa United and MP Black Aces.
A few months ago, at Aces, his contract was terminated after he had an ugly fall-out with experienced and respected coach Clive Barker. ORLANDO PIRATES are said to be very keen on signing Ghanaian defender Mohammed Awal.
The Maritzburg United centre-back is currently anchoring Ghana’s defence at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, and Pirates want to lure him to Joburg when the tournament is over.
Awal’s club Maritzburg, however, say that, at the moment, in addition to Pirates, they are also weighing up an overseas offer for the Ghanaian. MABHUTI KHENYEZA recently joined former club Golden Arrows from MP Black Aces, now defender Thabang Rooi is hoping to make the same move.
Former Kaizer Chiefs man Rooi has not seen much game time at Aces and is keen on linking up with exteammate Khenyeza in the National First Division.
Khenyeza, 32, now reaching the end of his career, has re-joined the club that gave him a start in professional football 10 years ago. He is hoping his presence can inspire Arrows to promotion to the PSL. – Rodney Reiners
